I want to thank everyone for all the love for my 500th. I want to thank both the A's and B's for the honour guard before my game. Derby night was great - awesome to hang out with all of you boys.
The stats have been updated here.
To the report:
A's (3-0) v B's (1-2) - The A's won 52-22. For the A's - Phil had 13, Foo 11, Jack 8. B's - Davey 8, Mike 5. The A's could be the best SACBA team ever and go undefeated.
C's (3-0) v Holdfast A - Written by G - This week the C’s were up against Holdfast A’s. We had no idea what we were up against and with Manners away and G possibly unable to make it we got Billy Wilson in for his 2nd game in 4 years. Turned out that G could make it. We started out in a Man defence and took it to them early on. G hit a few early to get us going and most of the rest of the team were able to get a bucket. We were up at the half 20-13 with Holdfast not looking like they could do much. 2nd half we came out strong and built up a ~15 point lead with 13:00 to play, Billy hitting 3 3s. Holdfast started showing what they were capable of. A couple of well contested 3s, 70% shooting and getting on the O boards had them hedging our lead down. They got within 7 with 3:00 to go, and for the third week in a row, decided to switch to a terrible trap which gave us a multitude of scoring options to counter their offence. The got the lead down to 4 with 30 to play, but fouled Phill on an open layup. Time ran out. Phill hit 1 of 2. We win by 5, 49-44. It was good to come away with our 3rd win, but with Holdfast hitting shots with good defence, they could be one of the better teams in the league. Phill had is best game of the year and should poll most 2s. Billy’s shooting in the 2nd half should net him the ones. Great team effort to pull another win. Billy had 13, Phill had 12, G had 9.
D's (2-1) v E (2-1) - Written by Sime - The derby games can be a bit of an unknown - how will you match up against mates & former teammates - but the flip side is that you know their game pretty well. Running man for the whole game proved successful & ground the E's offense to a halt. Kirkham, Jono & Reggie all scored early and a small lead opened up. At 14-10 the D's had their best few minutes, going on an 8-0 run on the back of 3s from Pritch & Mitch K & a couple of steals from Reggie (one of which drew an unsportsmanlike foul from Moorfoot on the break). It was 22-11 at the half. The 2nd half was closer, but a great controlled game by the D's, belied their youth. The E's didn't have a great game it's fair to say, Rough Justice was their best, but the D's neutralised Bubs' influence by restricting his run & kept Moorfoot, Bubs & B-Rad off the boards. The good D forced bad passes and allowed steals, & the young boys were always keen to support on the break! Rough J topscored for the E's, which we know is not their game plan, reflecting the smothering D on Moorfoot & Bubs and Lunny's blanket D that restricted B-Rad for much of the game - including a massive block on him down low. Crawford & Krantz boxed out particularly well & cut the E's 2nd chance opportunities, Krantz getting a heap of boards. Jono & Pritch had their best games of the season - Pritch a controlled game with good energy, passing & shooting; Jono did lots of smart things, inside, steals, scoring etc. Kirkham continued his great shooting form for the top score of 11, but there was a good spread in the 37-24 win, Angus & Jono with 6, Pritch & Reggie with 5. For the E's, Rough Justice had 8, Moorfoot and Bubs had 5.
F's (3-0) v G's (1-2) - Written by Nige - G-Force got off to a slow start against the might of the F Grade, just like last week we were able to get good looks in offense but struggled to make the most of our opportunities. Defensively we were able to force misses out of everyone but Jay Nguyen. Unfortunately Road Train was dominant on the boards, and he kept turning misses into second chances at one end and denying second chances at the other. Excluding Jay and Road Train, the score was an even 7-7 at the half. The second half from the G’s was much improved, with a few good looks dropping for us for a change, and again the defensive effort was good and we were able to run the break more, although not always with conviction. Excluding Jay and Road Train, we won the second half 10-7 for an overall 17-14 advantage. Unfortunately Jay did a Tom Lynch and outscored us on his own, 21-17, and Road Train added another 12 to leave the scoreboard reading a very sorry 47-17. Sam, Will, Jacky and Brendan shared the scoring evenly for the G’s in a balanced team effort.
Lady Reds (1-1-1) V Unley Park B - It twas a draw. Reds had a lead going into the 2nd half but let Unley back into the game. They had a chance to win but turned the ball over in the last few seconds. Tie game 24-24. Georgie 11, Megan 5, Wans 4.
