SAABL Division 1
A’s v Adelaide University Blacks
A’s were
up against a new to Division 1 University of Adelaide. Both teams had fought
and lost against Saints the week before and were looking for a win. Blows were
traded early as both teams struggled to break away from the other. Lachy and
Brendon scoring for Reds whilst Josh Warnock finished well for Blacks. Both
teams attempted to run the break but Blacks were more successful pulling ahead
13-6. Mike wasn’t bailing us out from range this week so everyone had to
hustle, Big Phil proving hard to stop inside with 9 points in the first half
around the rim. Going into the break 25-28, up 3.
Mike came
out attacking again in the second going back to back points inside, and then
Liam thawed out from his season off and started shooting... and he got hot!
Finishing off with 15 points, mostly in the second. Baby Brennan chipped in
with 2 threes of his own and Lachy and Brendon knocked one down from range
each. Reds managed to weather the storm that was Jay that went for 22. All
contributing to a 50-68 win.
Scorers: Brendon unlike
his midweek teams had the fewest with 8, Liam and Phil tied with 15.
Guesses on votes as it often goes to second half efforts - Liam and Phil. But will be an interesting night of votes!

SAABL Division 2
B’s v RAVSTASS Raven
The
B’s started slowly out the gates and fell to an early 8 points deficit. Gus kept us in the game with a flurry of tough leaners,
put backs and lay ups, finishing with 18 in an impressive first half - even more
so considering he said after the game “this is the most hungover I’ve ever been”
… “I wanted to prove a point that I can play hungover”. Point proven ‘rockstar’,
keep doing what your doing.
The
Ravens switched to man in the second half and we struggled to score consistently
and got bogged down in the half court. Gus was still getting into the lane at
will and scoring from the free throw line and Brandon hit some tough floaters -
but we couldn’t get enough stops to erase the deficit.
We pushed
the pace late and tried to get up plenty of threes to get back in the game, but
nothing dropped. The Reds not hitting a 3 for the game was indicative of a day
were things didn’t quite roll our way. Ravens 55 defeat Reds 44.
Points: Gus 27, Brandon 8.
C’s v Saints Blue 2
The C’s
played Saints Blue and were short handed with both Foos out. Saints started in
a man defense which caught us off guard, rushing our offense. Saints got out on
the break consistently throughout the first half, scoring off both turnovers
and missed shots. They out ran us leading to a flurry of 2 on 1 lay ups. Darcy
scored inside and Dylan made a tough floater but the game was very one sided.
Reds down 10-37 at the half.
In the
second, we made more of an effort to get back on defense. Cam had an and-1 and Morgan
got points off an offensive rebound. Alex, Ollie and Dillon got some jumpers to
fall. It was a tighter second half, but saints still scored in the half court
and forced turnovers. A better second half but plenty to work on.
Final score 31-74 and thanks to Ollie Fox for
filling in.
SAABL Division 3
D’s (All Stars) v E’s
The
E’s this week we’re up against the SAABL All Stars. Right from the start the
game was physical with a couple of the All Stars pushing us around as they
became frustrated with the amount of threes we were hitting. The Es got off to
the early lead with many outside shots happening to fall.
This
lead kept us in front for the remainder of the game once we shut out the
oppositions inside shots. Overall the smart play and higher basketball IQ was
tough to come up against however we got the job done. All round great game from
the boys on to the next win.
E’s 35 defeat All Stars 29. Top scorer Ollie Fox with 12.
F’s v RAVSTASS Leprechauns
Once
again it was easy to select the starting 5, with only 5 available players at
the starting whistle.Luckily Nele walked in just as the game was about to
begin, giving us the one sub. Things didn’t go too badly for the first 30
seconds or so, then the rot set in.
After
about 7 minutes of play we had managed one point, from an RT freethrow, while
the opposition were on about 18. From there on in it was a grind, with the Reds
team never really finding a good rhythm. The final score of 34-48 was a
lot better than I expected it to be, given how the game progressed.
The
final foul count was 10 per team, although it certainly didn’t feel that way
during the game. Once again after the game we agreed that we are definitely a
Div 4 team playing in a Div 3 competition.
Scorers: B-Rad
top scored with 16, Caldy with 7. RT and Nele with 4 each. Trev with just the
one good 3 point shot this week and Flair only troubling the scorers with a
foul. Hendo was a late scratching due to injury and Phil Walker was a no show.
Successful
beers, chips and shiny meat were had over in the parklands post game.

G’s (Rookie Reds) v United Abilities
The Rookie Reds came up against United Abilities
this week, and subsequently suffered our first loss as a group after going
undefeated as a team all through year 12.
After a delay to the start of the game due to
an incomplete opposing team, the match got off to a fairly even start. This was
followed by a flurry of quick points for the Reds including two three-point
shots from Noah and seven unanswered points from ‘Unidentified player’ (a
penalty for the delayed start) to open up a 20-8 lead midway through the half.
However, the opposition fought back late to close the half 24-17.
The boys came out strong in the second half,
applying pressure up the floor and quickly re-establishing a double-digit
margin. Craigie established himself as a dominant force inside while Rippon and
Ottanelli found the scoreboard with some smooth finishes. But as the half
progressed, the opposition’s one-man-team took over, single-handedly mounting a
comeback to leave the scores tied with just seconds remaining. An unlucky
backcourt foul in the bonus with just 3 seconds left on the clock sent the
opposition to the line, where they unfortunately iced the game.
Final Score: Rookie
Reds 39 defeated by United Abilities 40
Scorers: Noah 17, Miller 4
