SACBA Week 8 - Halfway Mark

This is the round of Week 1 rematches - as you may remember all the men's teams won in Week 1. It is the only week that we won every game. When you start the season you don't know how good all the teams are going to be and after playing every team once and seeing where we sit, things are looking pretty healthy. 6 teams are looking likely to make the Top 4 (with 2 teams yet to register a loss) and 2 others are looking good for the reserve title if they don't make the Top 4.

A's v Gateway A @ 3.30pm - The Reds handed Gateway their only loss of the first 7 weeks. The A's have had a strange season - they were awesome against the B's, struggled over the line against Knightsbridge and Brighton and put in a poor performance against Saints - when players were late. They have missed one game due to Purge's injury and they had a forfeit last week when Corner just didn't show up. The A's have played 1 game in 4 weeks. Gateway are absolutley rolling - they beat Saints and snuck over the line against the B's. Gateway have an awesome front court with Smith and Meyer ... and they have an array of really good guards in McKinnon, Tommy, the Horskin brothers, Kerwin and Jo. If they bought out their strongest team they would be arguably the best team in the league. The A's need to get some games under their belt - they have yet to gel as a team ... not a good sign when they are 7 games in. Reds by 5.

Last Time Played - Win 39-30

B's v Brighton A @ 1.50pm  - The B's have started to come together - big wins against Happy Valley, Knightsbridge and Brighton ... a narrow loss against Gateway (a game they should have won), a blow out loss to the A's and a solid effort against Saints. The B's effort and defence are rock solid and they are starting to get it together. Brighton are better than their record - they have a good young shooter in Matthews, savvy big guy Mulder and a scorer in G. Whitford. Saturday won't be a blow out like the first time they played Brighton - the B's should get the win.

Last Time Played - Win 55-21

C's v The Corner A @ 5.10 -  Corner have not had the season that we thought - they have been struggling as you can see with their 3-4 record. The C's have been absolutley ticking -they are too big, they try way harder than anyone else and they just beat teams down. They will have a 10 minute burst in every game where they hold teams scoreless and go on a scoring run. Corner are dangerous - Cotterill and Goodwin are both two of the best 5 players in the grade - the C's are big and deep and if the effort is there they will win. C's by 4.

D's v Taperoo A @ 2.40 - SLUGFEST! Taperoo's tactics don't seem to be paying off in the NE1 Grade with them only winning 1 game. The D's are very young and have a few too many lapses in games where they go scoreless and switch off defensively. These things will happen when you are young but it is all part of learning how to play the game. The D's are slowly getting it together and need to get this win Saturday.

Last Time Played - Win 35 - 29

E's v Knightsbridge B - Knightsbridge are 5th and the E's are 6th. If the E's are going to start getting their season on track they need to be the 3 teams in the bottom of the ladder. They pumped Knightsbridge last time ... too much Bubner.

F's v Golden Grove A - Golden Grove gave the F's their only test of the first 7 games. I thought Golden Grove would be head and shoulders above the rest of the league (much like the F's have been) but they have lost 2 games and they are 3rd on the ladder. The F's are rolling and Jay has returned to vintage form. Reds by 5.

Last Time Played - Win 36-35

G's v Spicer A - The G's got their biggest win against Spicer in the first week - I haven't seen Spicer but I am guessing they are not great. Reid and Brendan have been the best 2 players for the G's and they are appear to be getting better as the season goes along. The G's goal should be to beat both Saints teams and Spicer everytime they play them and finish 5th to go for the Reserve title.

Lady Reds v Adelaide A - The Lady Reds have made the biggest growth from the first few weeks to the last few weeks. They have come together as a team, they all have their roles and they are playing well together. Their defense has improved out of sight in the last few weeks, their defense then feeds their offense. Adelaide are still then bench mark - without Jordy, Loz and Emma this week, this will be a struggle. They just need to make a good showing and work hard in D.
