SACBA Finals Week 2 - Qualifying Final

Grand Final weekend - wooooooooooo! Best weekend of the year. This is what we play for every year ... this is why we train and work on our games, why we rock up every Saturday - for this opportunity. If you are not excited - there is something wrong.

GRAND FINAL BBQ: Brad Hughes is kindly hosting this year's Grand Final BBQ this Saturday September 20. BBQ starts at 12 noon. Head down to his place - you need to BYO meat and beers. I have emailed you the address and it is on the PAOCBC Facebook page. If you are not on either of those, text me and I will send it to you.

We will then all make our way to Grand Finals at Wayville by 3.20pm for the E's game.

POST GRAND FINAL: Back to the Seven Stars after the C’s game – at about 9ish. The Front bar is not booked so we can all head in there.

CLUB BEHAVIOUR: I know I don't need to say this but I will - If anyone and I mean anyone (club member, friend, partner, family), causes any problems - members of the committee will give you one warning, if you are warned again ... you will be told to leave and not allowed to re-enter. As a club - we will not talk to the opposition or the refs during any games. If you are heard abusing either group ... you will be kicked out. Do you understand? We are there to cheer on our teams and that is what we will do. Some guys have shorter leashes than others.

I would ask that every member of the club make it to the Grand Finals ... I am not going to say attendance is compulsory ... but  whatever one step below compulsory is ... that is your attendance requirement status.

CLUB LUNCH: Saturday October 11th @ Seven Stars. $50 lunch and 3 hour drinks package. Please RSVP to Palky. More details to come.

The stats page is up to date here.

Three teams are into this week's Grand Finals - the A's, D's and E's and on Saturday two more teams were battling it out to get in - the C's v Unley Park A and the Lady Reds v Unley Park A. Reds v Unley Park ... the new rivalry.

To the reports:
C's v Unley Park A - The C's have struggled against Unley Park this year - they struggle with their quickness and 3 point shooting. Unley Park have arguably the best player in their division (#32) and they have a couple of excellent shooters, two athletic guys who can get to the ring and a serviceable big guy. The C's started in a 2-1-2 to maximise their chances of getting to the shooters. Krantz was late because he was pulled over by the cops on the way to the game - they searched his car for drugs.

Unley got out to a 12-6 lead ... with #32 getting to the basket and three inside scores from their big guy. G kept it close with three 3's and a couple of free throws, Brad and Jay scored inside and Jay hit a big 3 - down 1 at halftime 18-19. Second half, Unley were shadowing G and the C's couldn't find a shot - Goody and Krantz were scoring inside but #4 for Unley got hot and made two 3's and a long 2. This opened up the floor and #32 and #21 were getting to the rack. The C's just couldn't find a consistent avenue to the basket and ended up losing 32-43. G had 11, Goody and Krantz 6.

It was a shame that a great season had to finish this way.

Lady Reds v Unley Park WA - Unley Park looked a little undermanned - missing their center and their best shooter. The Reds were missing Jordy - so it seemed like it was going to be a good contest.

The Reds started in a man and it appeared to be a good option - but 2 things went wrong ... foul trouble and Unley made 5 absolute prayers to keep the Reds at arms length. Alicia opened with a tough runner and Georgie and Claire were killing it inside. Georgie had to go off with her 3rd foul and the Reds lost their best one on one scorer. Loz hit a 3 and a layup - Reds down 16-19 at halftime. They girls were turning it over far too often.

Unley started the half with 4 players as one of their players was hurt on the sidelines - they didn't make them pay and Unley actually scored a couple of baskets. Soon after Unley went back to 5 players and Reds started to score again - Claire inside, Megan made a tough runner and Alicia hit a runner baseline. Georgie picked up her 4th. The Reds were close - down 22-23. Reds were dominating the boards with Wans getting everything and their tight D forced 4 straight steals ... and as they turned to run the break they got called for a travel, travel, double dribble and were fouled on the doing a layup - no call. This broke the momentum. Unley went to the line as the Reds were again in the penalty (final foul count 19-6) and they started to convert. The Reds needed a score but just couldn't get it. Loz made a late 3 but it was all over. Lost 29-34. Loz with 11 and Claire with 8.

It was another great season for the Reds - in their 4 years they have finished 2nd, 2nd, 3rd and 3rd. They will get that title soon ... it took the Boys 15 years to get their 1st A Grade title.
